Performance Group Geopoetics creates site-specific walking performances in rural and urban landscapes to explore sites and places as collective experiences and mythic narratives of the present. It operates as an artistic collective drawing its members each time from different fields such as theater, music, sculpture, visual and performance art and architecture. The word ‘collective’ here implies a non-hierarchical creative process where all the disciplines equally co-form an artistic product.

Geopoetics/ Γεωποιητική elaborates mindfulness and performance practices in situ to create embodied landscape dramaturgies. Audience members follow a score while they engage with the site psychophysically. Geopoetic performances devise ‘meta-narratives’ of place and create communal experiences in situ.

Geopoetics was founded by theater practitioner and researcher Anna Tzakou. Since 2012, it has conducted body-landscape performance research and site-specific walking performances in Aegina, Nisyros, Syros, Tinos, Prespes, Athens (Eridanos River, Syntagma Square, Lycabettus Hill, Neapoli Exarchia), Thessaloniki (Yeni Mosque), and Cyprus (Akamas). Among others the group has been commissioned and funded by the Experimental Stage -1 of Greek National Theatre, Pafos Cultural Capital 2017, Athens and Epidaurus Festival, Thessaloniki Dimitria Festival and the Hellenic Ministry of Culture.
